RFO Electronics elMo'

Vintage Fender Blackface Tone

Available colors:

Daphne Blue - Surf Green - Fiesta Red

The RFO elMo' overdrive pedal was designed to sound like SRV's tone from the famous "El Mocambo" show which was a couple of cranked vintage Fender Blackface amps. It provides a smooth overdrive reminiscent of the black face Fender amplifiers of the 1960’s.

The el Mo is powered by quad amp, driving a gain stage which uses high speed silicon diodes. The tone stack is rather unorthodox by most standards, and is tuned to provide a scooped midrange, replicating Fender Black Face amplifiers. The el Mo' also uses full bypass momentary relay switching.

The RFO Electronics musical effects incorporate a soft touch switching that helps reduce most of the annoying “pop” sometimes heard-through the amplifier when an effect is switched on or off. The effect switch is a momentary contact switch that requires minimalpressure to cycle. Therefore, there is no need to “stomp” on the switch.

Your RFO Electronics effect will operate on a conventional 9V alkaline battery (Battery not included), or a 9V power supply using a5.5mm long x 2.1mm diameter center tip negative power supply, such as a One Spot, or pedal board power supply

Things you should know about your RFO Electronics effect's switching:

  1. RFO Electronics effects have a default setting of This means that when you first power your effect, or yourpedal board up, your effect will be in the BYPASS state.
  2. To minimize the possibility of draining your effect's battery, the effect has a built-in internal switch that reduces thepossibility of draining the It is designed so that when you remove all instrument cables, the battery is not connected to the effect. Therefore, your effect will require an instrument cable to be inserted into the Instrument IN jack.

Once an instrument cable is inserted into the IN jack, you should see the LED flash twice. This indicates that the effect ispowered up, switching relays are properly sequenced, and the effect is in BYPASS. Your effect is now ready for use.

Remember, when using your effect on battery power, always remove the instrument input cable from the effect. This will ensure that your battery will provide you the longest life possible.

  1. When using a DC power supply, your RFO Electronics effect will automatically disconnect from the battery, and power willbe supplied by the DC power When a DC power supply is being used, your effect's LED will immediately provide twoflashes, and be in BYPASS, ready for use.
  2. Remember, the effect does not use the heavy pressure stomp switch. You do not need to stomp it to activate or de-activate the A simple press will accomplish cycling the effect.

In the event that your effect appears to be malfunctioning, there are only a few troubleshooting steps that need checked:

  1. If using a battery when the apparent malfunction occurs, if possible, switch to a DC power If one is not available, replace the battery with a fresh battery. While this may sound like common sense, nearly 100% of the switching issues that we have experienced have been the result of a very weak or dead 9V battery.
  2. Verify that you receive two flashes on the LED when the effect is powered up. If you do not receive two removeall power, DC and battery, and try again. This should reset the internal programming. If the condition persists. contact us, andwe will provide further guidance.
