Several weeks before the start of the Rush 40th Anniversary tour, Alex and his guitar tech Scott asked Dave at DLS Effects for a custom Boost-Gain-Sustain effect for the tour. Alex’s requirements were to provide boost and sustain without compression, maintain tonal purity, and break over to Rush distortion near maximum gain level. Alex tested the custom Boost-Sustain several weeks on the set list and thought it was perfect! DLS was told it also fattened his sound even more! Alex ended up using the Boost-Gain-Sustain effect for 60% of the songs on the Rush R40 tour
