The R. Weaver FX Octav8 is a hand-built octave fuzz dedicated to the wild, explosive sounds of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Thick, aggressive and wonderfully unpredictable, it delivers the unmistakable upper-octave character associated with classic Octavia-style fuzz and Jimi Hendrix’s legendary Band of Gypsys era.

Built by Rick Weaver, the man behind R. Weaver FX, the Octav8 reflects more than four decades of experience with guitars, amplifiers and effects. This is not a mass-produced digital interpretation: it is a carefully voiced analogue circuit created for players who appreciate old-school construction, touch sensitivity and authentic vintage fuzz behaviour.

The Boost control takes the sound from a textured, harmonically rich drive to thick, saturated octave fuzz, while Levelcontrols the pedal’s overall output. The prominent upper octave reacts naturally to your guitar, playing position and settings, producing everything from gritty vintage leads to screaming, ring-modulated overtones.

Like the original octave-fuzz circuits that inspired it, the Octav8 becomes part of the performance. Notes, bends and double-stops interact differently with the circuit, creating a raw and highly expressive playing experience.

For the strongest octave effect, use your guitar’s neck pickup, roll back the tone control slightly and play single notes around or above the 12th fret. Into a warm or lightly overdriven tube amplifier, the Octav8 produces the singing, harmonically charged lead tones for which this style of circuit is famous.

The current official specification lists hand-selected silicon transistors, matched NOS germanium diodes and an optimised transformer. Suggested Signal-Chain Placement

Octave fuzz pedals are usually most responsive when placed early in the signal chain, ideally directly after the guitar and before buffered pedals.

A particularly effective Hendrix-style setup is:

Guitar → Octav8 → Uni-Vibe → Overdrive → Amplifier

An overdrive after the vibe can add compression, warmth and sustain while pushing the amplifier toward a fuller, more vocal lead sound.
