The DLS Effects TR1 Tremolo is a pure analog, optical stereo tremolo designed to cover everything from the warm pulse of a vintage tube amplifier to sharp, rhythmic modulation and experimental stereo effects.

Its unusual Warmth control blends the characteristics of two differently voiced optical components. This allows the sound to move smoothly from soft, rounded vintage tremolo to a more modern, aggressive response.

The equally flexible Shape control adjusts both the waveform and its duty cycle, creating traditional rhythmic tremolo, hard slicing effects, reverse-style movement and many variations in between.

Three ways to control the speed

The TR1 offers three different methods of setting the modulation rate:

• Rate control: Conventional manual speed adjustment
• Tap tempo: Synchronises the tremolo with the music
• Expression input: Provides real-time external control of the rate

In Tap mode, the Rate control becomes a tempo multiplier with 1:1, 1:2, 1:3 and 1:4 divisions. The tapped tempo is stored in memory, even after power is disconnected.

Warmth and Shape controls

The Warmth control biases two differently voiced analog optical components:

• Turn toward the tube side for soft, warm, vintage-style movement
• Move in the opposite direction for a sharper and more aggressive tremolo
• Use intermediate settings to combine both characters

The Shape control adjusts the relationship between the audible and reduced portions of the waveform. It can produce smooth amplifier tremolo, asymmetric pulses, hard rhythmic chopping and reverse-like effects.

Stereo and Ping-Pong operation

Two independent input and output channels allow several configurations:

• Mono input and mono output
• Mono input and stereo output
• Stereo input and stereo output
• Synchronous stereo tremolo
• Alternating Ping-Pong tremolo

Holding the Tap footswitch for three seconds changes between synchronized stereo operation and Ping-Pong mode, where the tremolo alternates between two amplifiers or channels.

Channel A uses true-bypass switching, while Channel B provides a buffered output.

Independent output levels

Separate Volume A and Volume B controls allow the two output levels to be balanced independently.

Both controls range from attenuation to boost, making it possible to compensate for perceived volume loss or deliberately increase the level when the effect is active.
