History:
The 1962 Fender Princeton Brown 6G2 tube amplifier is a highly sought-after vintage amplifier that has become a classic among guitarists and collectors alike. This particular model is part of Fender’s “Brownface” era, characterized by its distinctive brown control plate and brown tolex covering.
The Fender Princeton Brown 6G2 features a compact and portable design, making it suitable for small gigs, studio recordings, or home practice sessions. It sports a single 10-inch speaker, which delivers a rich and dynamic tone. The amplifier operates on a pair of 6V6 power tubes, providing approximately 12-15 watts of output power. These power tubes contribute to the amp’s warm and smooth tone, with a touch of vintage tube saturation when pushed.
In terms of controls, the front panel of the amplifier includes a power switch, volume control, treble, bass, and speed controls. The volume control allows you to dial in the desired loudness, while the treble and bass knobs shape the overall tonal character. The speed control adjusts the rate of the built-in tremolo effect, which adds a pulsating modulation to your guitar sound, a signature feature of this era of Fender amplifiers.
The Fender Princeton Brown 6G2 also includes a dual-input configuration, with two separate channels labeled “Normal” and “Bright.” The Normal channel offers a cleaner and more balanced sound, while the Bright channel adds a bit more sparkle and bite to the tone.
