Upgrades or Modifications: correct later potentiometer cover screws
Weight: 5 lb 5 oz / 2.41 kg
Included: Original faux-alligator chipboard case

Offered here is an exceptionally cool, all-original early-1965 Gibson SG Junior in its original Cherry Red nitrocellulose finish.

This guitar has the desirable approximately 42.8 mm—or 1 11/16-inch—nut width associated with early-1965 examples. Its substantial neck measures approximately .850 inch at the first fret and 1.006 inches at the twelfth fret.

The guitar is remarkably lightweight at only 5 lb 5 oz / 2.41 kg. Its one-piece double-cutaway mahogany body and set mahogany neck produce a lively, resonant response, while the original dog-ear P-90 delivers classic vintage Gibson clarity, midrange punch and aggressive growl.

The guitar remains in its original configuration and has not been modified. Its original P-90 pickup, potentiometers and factory solder joints remain untouched. The CTS potentiometer code 1376502 dates the component to the second week of 1965 and supports the guitar’s early-1965 production date.

Original components include:

  • Cherry Red nitrocellulose finish
  • Dog-ear P-90 pickup
  • Untouched potentiometers and factory solder joints
  • Original frets
  • Nickel wraparound bridge
  • Two reflector top-hat knobs
  • Three-on-a-strip tuners
  • Three-ply black pickguard

The original frets remain in very good condition. The finish displays attractive weather checking, honest playwear and genuine vintage patina. There are several scuffs along the top edge of the headstock, while the back of the guitar is comparatively clean.

The pickguard has a typical stress crack near the mounting point on the lower-horn side (small point on top of the screw is missing). Please examine the photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description.

The original faux-alligator chipboard case is included. The case is in poor, heavily worn condition and should be considered an original period accessory rather than a reliable case for regular transportation.

This is a superbly lightweight, resonant and highly original example of one of Gibson’s purest vintage electric guitars.

The guitar has been professionally inspected and set up, ensuring excellent playability and performance.
