1974 Fender Stratocaster – Original Black Finish

A genuine CBS-era Stratocaster featuring its original factory Black finish, one-piece maple neck, three original grey-bottom pickups, original bridge and saddles, original three-ply white pickguard and original Fender “F” tuners.

The guitar remains in very good overall condition, with attractive checking, dings, scratches and honest playing wear. It has been professionally inspected, set up and refretted with 6105 narrow-tall fret wire, providing excellent modern playability while retaining its vintage character.

Pickups and Electronics

The guitar retains all three original grey-bottom single-coil pickups and its original pickup wiring, with refreshed solder joints.

The first two digits of the pickup stamps are difficult to read (will do on request), but the visible final four digits are 1374 on all three pickups. Detailed photographs of the stamps, wiring and electronics are included.

Approximate resistance readings:

• Neck: 6.00kΩ
• Middle: 6.08kΩ
• Bridge: 6.08kΩ

All three potentiometers were replaced and date to 1979:

• Volume: CTS
• Tone: Centralab
• Tone: Centralab

The guitar also retains its original knobs and CRL three-way selector switch.

Condition and Replaced Parts

The glossy original finish shows natural checking, light dings, scratches and buckle wear beneath the tremolo area. There is a small repaired and covered impact mark on the lower horn, evidence of a former sticker on the upper arm contour without finish damage, and a small hole in the pickguard beside the controls.

Previously installed aluminium shielding was removed. The tremolo arm, switch tip and a couple of screws are later replacements.

The headstock face is original, without overspray, and the black Fender decal remains clean. The guitar has been examined under blacklight, with its condition documented in the photographs.

A later vintage black Fender hard-shell case is included.
