History:

The 1964 Fender Princeton “Tuxedo” tube amplifier is  a classic piece of musical equipment that embodies the vintage charm and distinctive sound of mid-20th century    Fender amplifiers. Known for its “tuxedo” appearance due to the combination of black tolex covering and white control knobs, this amp stands out visually while delivering the high-quality audio performance Fender is renowned for.

Key features of the 1964 Fender Princeton Tuxedo tube amp include:

  1. Compact Size: Designed as a practice and studio amp, its compact dimensions make it highly portable and convenient for small gigs or home use.
  2. Tube Configuration: The amp uses a classic tube configuration that contributes to its warm, rich sound. It typically includes 12AX7 preamp tubes, a 5Y3GT rectifier tube, and a pair of 6V6GT power tubes, producing around 12 watts of power.
  3. Single 10-inch Speaker: Equipped with a single 10-inch speaker, it offers a balanced frequency response and is ideal for achieving a clear, articulate sound.
  4. Control Panel: The control panel features simple, intuitive controls including volume, tone, speed, intensity knobs, allowing for straightforward tonal adjustments. The white knobs against the black tolex covering create the “tuxedo” aesthetic.
  5. Vintage Tone: Renowned for its clean tones and smooth overdrive, the 1964 Princeton Tuxedo is perfect for genres ranging from blues and jazz to classic rock. Its natural tube compression and harmonic richness make it a favorite among guitarists seeking an authentic vintage sound.

Build Quality: Fender’s commitment to high-quality craftsmanship is evident in the durable construction and reliable components used in this amplifier, ensuring longevity and consistent performance.

Key features of the 1965 Fender “Tuxedo” Reverb Unit  include:

  1. Distinctive “Tuxedo” Appearance: The unit is known for its “tuxedo” look, featuring a black tolex covering with contrasting white knobs and a black control panel. This elegant, monochrome aesthetic not only stands out visually but also matches the “tuxedo” styling of certain Fender amplifiers from the same period.
  2. Tube-Driven Reverb: Utilizing a 6K6GT tube, a 12AT7 tube, and a 7025 tube, the 1965 Reverb Unit produces a warm, natural reverb. The tube circuitry is essential for achieving the classic Fender reverb sound, known for its depth and smooth decay.
  3. Spring Reverb Tank: At the heart of the unit is the spring reverb tank, which generates the distinctive reverb effect. The springs create a rich, echo-like sound that adds depth and ambiance to guitar tones.
  4. Simple Controls: The control panel includes three straightforward knobs—Dwell, Mix, and Tone—allowing users to fine-tune the reverb effect. The Dwell control adjusts the intensity of the reverb, the Mix control balances the reverb with the dry signal, and the Tone control shapes the overall sound of the reverb.
  5. Durable Construction: Built to last, the 1965 Fender Reverb Unit features a solid cabinet and high-quality components. Fender’s reputation for reliable, road-worthy gear is evident in this robust design.
  6. Versatility: While originally designed for use with Fender amplifiers, the reverb unit is versatile enough to be used with various other amplifiers and instruments, making it a valuable addition to any musician’s gear collection.
  7. Sound Quality: The 1965 Fender Reverb Unit is celebrated for its lush, immersive reverb that enhances clean and overdriven tones alike. It became a staple in surf music for its ability to create expansive, wave-like sounds but is equally appreciated in other genres for adding a touch of vintage ambiance.

Overall, the 1964 Fender Princeton Tuxedo tube amp and the 1965 Fender Tuxedo Reverb Unit are cherished pieces of musical history, celebrated for its distinctive look and exceptional tonal quality.
