Rare Transition-Era Blonde / Black-Panel Piggyback Set

A beautiful 1964 Fender Bandmaster head and 2×12 piggyback Mojotone cabinet, representing the highly desirable transition period between Fender’s blonde era and the classic Blackface period.

The amplifier is an exceptionally nice example for its age, retaining its original 117V U.S.-specification configuration and vintage components. It has been professionally serviced and remains remarkably close to its original specification.

The Bandmaster delivers the unmistakable Fender sound of the period: big, open and powerful cleans, excellent headroom, and a wonderfully biting overdrive when pushed. With a Fender guitar it produces the classic glassy, articulate character associated with early-Blackface Fender amplifiers, while humbuckers such as those found on a Gibson bring out a thicker, more aggressive voice.

Running the amplifier wide open, piggybacked on its tilt-back legs, is where this Bandmaster really comes alive.

Condition & Originality

The 1964 Bandmaster head is in excellent cosmetic condition for its age and retains its classic blonde/black-panel transition-era appearance. The amplifier has been serviced and remains very original, with the filter capacitors replaced, a safe 3-prong power cable fitted, and a reproduction footswitch supplied.

The accompanying blonde 2×12 cabinet is a later Mojotone cabinet fitted with a pair of original early-1970s Oxford speakers. It complements the Bandmaster beautifully both visually and sonically.

The Head

This is a 1964 transition-era Fender Bandmaster head, with the distinctive blonde-era cabinet treatment combined with the developing Blackface-era control-panel styling.

The amplifier remains very original, with the following updates carried out for reliability and safe operation:

• Original 117V U.S.-specification transformer configuration
• Filter capacitors replaced
• New safe 3-prong grounded power cable
• Some service-related tube replacements
• Reproduction footswitch
• Casters fitted

The amp has been serviced and is ready for use.

2×12 Blonde Cabinet

The accompanying blonde 2×12 Mojotone cabinet is fitted with a pair of early-1970s Oxford speakers.

The cabinet complements the Bandmaster perfectly and gives the setup its classic Fender piggyback appearance.

Please Note

The 1964 Fender Reverb Unit in blonde, shown with the amplifier in some photographs, is not included. It is an original 1964 unit and is offered separately in its own flight case.

The 1988–1998 Epiphone Flying V Korina shown in some photographs is also not included and is listed separately.

This is a 117V U.S.-specification amplifier. A suitable step-down transformer is required for operation on European 230V mains.
