Historical Overview:
The Fender Deluxe 6G3, produced from 1961 to 1963, represents the transitional “Brownface” era between the tweed amps of the 1950s and the later blackface models of the mid-’60s. It delivered around 20 watts of output through a single 12-inch speaker, powered by dual 6V6GT power tubes, a GZ34 rectifier, and 12AX7/7025 preamp tubes.
The 6G3 circuit is prized for its rich, touch-sensitive breakup — a more aggressive, mid-forward tone compared to the cleaner, scooped blackface sound that followed. It was one of the first Fender amps to feature bias-modulated tremolo, giving it a smooth, pulsating character.
By late 1963, the 6G3 was phased out and replaced by the AB763 Blackface Deluxe, making the Brown Deluxe relatively rare and highly collectible today.
